Black Dynamite [Blu-ray] Review

If you have even a smidgen of Blaxploitation film viewing under your belt you will LOVE Black Dynamite. I had the pleasure of seeing this in NYC a month ago with my friends. We were constantly bowled over laughing ourselves silly. From the opening moment to the "sex" scene to the climax, Black Dynamite lovingly parodies the genre while making a film that clearly looked and sounded like it was from the Grindhouse era.

Michael Jai White is absolutely the MAN and his performance is perfect. Purposely stilted (as is everyone else around him), White unleashes Kung Fu and Jive-talking-Fu to his many enemies and friends. The film's payoff is one of the funniest I've seen in years.

I appreciate all the love and stupendous silliness put into the making of Black Dynamite and I, for, one would love to see Mr. White return as the title character.

I hope the dvd has all the Fight Smack in the Orphanage site clips, that "Ding Dong Roar" rip on Sesame Street was almost as funny as the film.

Set in 1972, Black Dynamite doesn't just act like a movie from the Superfly era, it looks and sounds like one, too, courtesy Adrian Younge's old-school funk score, Shawn Maurer's 16mm cinematography, a cartoon credit sequence, and some carefully choreographed boom mic appearances. I never saw or heard of this movie before last week. I just rented it from Blockbuster because I like Dermot Mulroney and Amanda Peet. Since renting it last Sunday, I have seen it 5 times. This is now one of my all-time favorite love stories and I usually HATE movies that don't have the typical happy ending. This ending was not typical but very satisfying. I am now going to purchase it on Amazon because in my opinion, it is a must-have in any DVD collection. If, before seeing this movie, I had read a review that had told me to bring a box of kleenex, I would have avoided it at all costs but in this case, the tears are cathartic, not distressing. Really, Griffin and Phoenix makes you think and cry and hope and want to see it again and again.

I've watch this movie many times before on VCD and HBO, and now I finally have it on DVD thanks to Amazon.com. The movie itself is pretty entertaining to watch and a bit funny, though. It's kinda one of those fantasy-like movie that brings your imagination comes to life. In this case, becoming a rockstar of your favorite rock band. There's also a love story alongside the story, a conflict within the band, and also girlfriend, and of course a great performance by Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston. It's a comforting movie to watch and definitely the one you don't wanna miss!!

Evan Almighty (Widescreen Edition) Review

When I began watching this movie, I completely expected a rip-off of the hilariously funny "Bruce Almighty" starring Jim Carrey. Same concept, same jokes, same old, right?! Thankfully, this version went in a bit of a different direction and was all the better for it.

The film follows news-caster Evan (from the first film, played by Steve Carell) as he leaves the newsroom behind and branches out into politics. Of course, just when it seems he has it made, he gets a little visit from God (once again personified brilliantly by Morgan Freeman). God tells Evan that he must build an Ark (ala Noah), as "a flood is coming". At first, Evan tries desperately to ignore or even outright thwart the "hand of God", but quickly learns that such an attitude is impossible. Thus, the Ark begins to be built and hilarity ensues.

Yet, despite the great sight sags and situational humor that Carell (of "The Office" fame) nails so perfectly, is this film really a comedy? I would have to say an emphatic "no". The only actual jokes offered are commentary from Wanda Sykes, and those get old real fast. Instead, the directors/producers use a combination of those sight gags and crazy situations to fashion a family film with a great message and a compelling storyline. Basically, while it may not have you laughing out loud, you will find yourself chuckling throughout, then actually caring about what happens to the characters at the end.

Going in that more family-oriented direction saved this film from becoming a re-tread of the first effort. The writers knew that only Carrey could have nailed the physical comedy and "in-your-face" jokes of "Bruce Almighty", so they toned it down a bit for the much more understated (yet still funny in its own way) Carell.

This film is perfectly safe to watch with your children and enjoy with the entire family. It isn't an instant classic, but you won't be looking at your watch, either.

Steve Carell rides the wave of 40-Year-Old Virgin stardom (and a biblical flood) in this bizarre, effects-heavy comedy about a modern-day Noah's ark. The film is nominally a sequel to Bruce Almighty, although it bears little relation to the 2003 Jim Carrey hit--except for the divine intervention of Morgan Freeman, who returns in his role as God. Even Carell's character is much altered from his supporting part in the first film; here, Evan Baxter says goodbye to the news-anchoring business in favor of his job as a naive freshman congressman. When God orders him to build an ark and prepare for an impending inundation, Evan sheepishly takes on the task (it's hard to turn down the job when your hair and beard grow to Old Testament lengths and God wants you to walk around in sackcloth).

Carell gets to do silly dances and mix it up with a variety of animals (real and computer-generated), all of which reminds us of the film's family-friendly tone and the PG rating. The kid stuff works just fine, although the religio-environmental message-mongering makes this a most curious kind of Hollywood blockbuster. When the flood comes, the film shifts into a mammoth-sized CGI extravaganza, recalling the era of overstuffed techno-comedies such as 1941 and Howard the Duck (and not to be nit-picky, but the tsunami-like disaster that overtakes Washington, D.C., looks as though it would snuff out the lives of quite a few citizens). Capable comic support comes from John Michael Higgins, Wanda Sykes, and Jonah Hill, with John Goodman and Lauren Graham filling out stock roles of fatcat politico and loyal wife, respectively. Carell is even better at being sincere than being funny, a talent that comes in handy here and bodes well for his future versatility. --Robert Horton

The Disney touch is all over this grand, colorful version of the Johann Wyss adventure of a European family set off for the new world of New Guinea. The film opens on a ship jostled and torn by a raging storm while a family struggles to make it through alive. Tossed into a reef near a deserted tropical island, father John Mills takes charge and the family soon turns their island prison into a veritable paradise. Their multilevel tree house, built in record time, is complete with running water and a working pipe organ scavenged from the ship, while their grand yard is abloom in English roses. As a tale of hardship and pioneer pluck, the tale is pure fantasy, but as entertainment it's energetic and appealing. The island is impossibly populated by ostriches, zebras, lions, and elephants, a private zoo that delights the youngest boy and offers plenty of comic relief. The two older brothers discover even wilder life when they rescue the prisoner of oriental pirates (led by hard-bitten Sessue Hayakawa). There's little real danger anywhere in the film--even the climactic battle with the pirates is a cartoonish affair, with coconut bombs and nonlethal booby traps, until the final desperate, deadly moments. Hardly a faithful adaptation of the novel, but a lush, beautifully photographed film and an entertaining adventure safe for all ages. Dorothy McGuire costars as the proper, worry-prone mother. The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour: The Best of Season 2 Review

This is a GREAT collection! Most people believe Season Three is the topper but Season Two has many, many great routines, guests and skits! We finally get to see Leigh French doing her most famous character in the segments of "Share A Little Tea With Goldie."

One of the fun parts of watching the SmoBro Shows is the looseness; they may stumble through an intro but, instead of doing another take, they laff and make fun of themselves. During a scene with Mama Cass, Dickie announces a Q&A period; Tommy says "no, we're not gonna do that now" then you see (but don't hear) Dickie say to Tommy "why aren't we doing it?" and Tommy answers...it's this type of looseness that gives another boost to the show...they leave moments like these in rather than re-shoot.

The interviews are plentiful and insightful. I especially enjoyed the interview with Pete Seeger who gives us a little more insight on his media blacklisting. There is also a gallery showing letters from viewers who protested the upcoming episode with Pete Seeger, calling him "anti-American" in almost every one...they usually start out the same: "I am writing in protest," which makes it apparent there was some dunderhead that started a "Ban Pete Seeger" campaign and his followers followed orders...it's SO friggin' obvious. It amazes me how someone (Seeger) who was against war and for peace could be labeled "anti-American". It shows how manipulated some of our own countrymen were in the 60's. Other interviews include Don Rickles, Leigh French, Glen Campbell, Mason Williams, Nancy Wilson, a very funny one from Pat Paulsen and background info on the episodes by Tom & Dick themselves.

Wonderful color and great guests (Don Rickles, Jimmy Durante, Bette Davis, Janet Leigh, Rowan & Martin, Don Knotts, Nanette Fabray, Mickey Rooney, George Segal, Mel Torme and many others).

The rock guests include The Who (yup, the famous clip!), Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Byrds, The Association, The Temptations and Janis Ian (who is also interviewed).

The clip of Tommy finally receiving an Emmy for comedy writing (from the 2008 Emmy Awards) is great; especially when the camera shows Dickie in the audience - you can see on his face how PROUD he is of his brother. These Bros truly love each other, unlike many other "family" acts who squabble continuously over the years.

All these shows were during the hotbed we called the Vietnam war and the SmoBros made us laugh while they ripped apart The Establishment, The Man and The Great Society. This is a priceless set that any TV aficionado (and comedy fan) should have. Even though these are labeled as "Best of" and not complete seasons, that doesn't mean they won't release the other episodes in the future. You really shouldn't pass up the chance to get any sets of "The Smothers Comedy Brothers Hour."

P.S. I never realized Patty Duke had such a great bod! WOW!

A week ago I had the opportunity to see the latest hit comedy / horror film "Zombieland." Was it good? It was bad? In anticipation of the release of this film was quite large and in any case, there is the buzz. The occupation is the first thing I want to address. The film stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin. However, concerns regarding the plot is fairly simple. Woody wants his twinkie, Jesse wants to wish his parents and two daughters, go to Playland, where her sister Emma Pacific can be a good time. What follows is a hell of a ride and start to finish not boring. There's also a cameo by an actor in the middle of the movie big namesthat my body ached from laughing the whole time.

One great thing that I want to talk! The film begins with a slow mo-assembly with "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is set in metal and I do not think I will never be a round of applause for what they did when the movie started seen. Applause, whistles and applause filled the room, and I was really pumped. No film done in recent history for me.

If you are a fan of zombie movies, comedies, horror, and / orStupid Fun, you'll love this film. Does not deserve to stand-by Academy Award for acting, or surprising story of passion, because you will be disappointed. This is a prior right of action / comedy, and for what it is, he does so brilliantly. E 'easily worth the price of admission and I look forward to the release on Blu-Ray. Go see it! This was one of my favorite movies growing up and I enjoyed watching it with my Mom who understood little English but always watched a Bob Hope movie with the kids. Comedy Go'ers joys ...

Just back from watching Rush Hour 3 in theaters. Who says that sequels do not be as good as the first? In my humble opinion Rush Hour 3 easily ties the first Rush now the only advantage that the first was the element of surprise.

The author does a good job of linking the plot to do the original video. The plot is very simple, but it flows nicely. The decreases were progressing rapidly, and credible, especially fantasy. Some of them went on board, but nothinglike MI3 or Die Hard series, movies for me are still good for several reasons. Sometimes you just want to not think for one movie and more vegetables, nothing.

Back to Rush Hour 3, ready to laugh, laugh, laugh. Chris Tucker makes the whole film and has a great job in it! Kudos to you Chris, what a comeback. He put a few pounds, but can still agile platform. Jackie Chan does a good job as well. Dad's Army - Collection Review

I first saw Dad's Army on PBS 'way back in the seventies when I was in high school. In the 90's I came across a few episodes at a video store on VHS, and remembered how much I enjoyed it. Therefore, I was delighted to see the DVD set on Amazon.

This was a series running through much of the seventies, one of the Croft classics that made his name. The setting is Walmington-On-Sea, a village on the English coast just across the Channel when the Nazis were in France. The story is about a Home Guard company in the village, headed by Captain Mainwaring, the bank manager. The local butcher, the local undertaker, a couple of retired people, and the local black market expert make up the focal members of this small band. They go through all sorts of adventures and misadventures, replete with British humor. It's certainly comedic, but not goofy a la Hogan's Heroes. This was not a high-budget series, but that's not important when the writing and acting is first-class: remember I Love Lucy?

I've watched the three CD's many times already, and the video quality is top-notch. The price is worth every penny for me, as unlike the old VHS tapes, these will last.

Twilight is the latest in the entertainment industry. The novels of the Twilight series is very popular and now the new film based on the first book Twilight, is also very popular. I was among the millions of people who have seen during the opening weekend.

THE RUNDOWN

I have always been a fan of the Rock or should I say Dwayne Johnson especially in villain roles [film and wrestling], but what ever I have always been a fan. This movie in particular was really the first time Dwayne shined, I know the "Scorpion King" and all that was out first but that really was in his wrestling/action realm. This was the first time he was put a little out of his norm [although there is a lot of action and fights] with addition of comedy. He was always good a making people laugh and it was a natural fit and I must say that he pulled it off nicely.

Beck [The Rock] is working for a rich guy retrieving late payments form various people and he is really good at his job. After crashing a party and knocking out some pro football players he thinks his time working for this man is done, but he has one more job left. He can't refuse to do it because he needs the cash to open up his own restaurant. So off he goes to the Amazon to hunt one Travis [Seann William Scott] and bring him back home to papa, Travis has other plans as he is close to finding a priceless artifact. Unfortunately for both of them Mariana [Rosario Dawson] the leader of a rebel group and Hatcher [Christopher Walken] the leader of the oppressors of the natives both want to stop them. So the fun begins as they must fight both groups, each other, the jungle, and some monkeys in a quest to get home.

Naturally this is a funny movie and very enjoyable particularly the cast, every one is excellent in this movie. The Rock is very charismatic and has a great presence on the screen, he gives a great performance here. Seann William Scott is excellent here which is nice because he can be really annoying in certain roles, can you guess what those are? Rosario Dawson is fine and also gives a great performance and once again is very much, fine. Christopher Walken as always is a legend and commands respect every time he is on screen, always great to see him. Ewen Bremner is a scene stealer in this one with his whip wielding ways, oh those silly oppressors.

The script by R.J. Stewart and James Vanderbilt is great and full of some great and funny moments but it is the action that marks my favorite parts of the film. There is one scene in particular that has a lot to do with Capoeira or Capawara depending, although Travis calls it some kind of Jiu-Jitsu or something. Director Peter Berg did a nice job with this film adding in that art form in particular. Add in some excellent shoot outs, fights and some excellent scenes involving monkeys and you get a very entertaining movie.

This is not the best movie ever and may not even be the best WWE produced film either but it is close in the latter. I would recommend a purchase on this one but you could go with a rental if you prefer. This is a very entertaining movie and is perfect for a Saturday at any time, love those lazy days.

Daddy Day Care (Special Edition) Review

I love Eddie Murphy. I've been a fan since his stints on Saturday Night Live. But his acting is suffering horribly, as of late. His role choices seem to be suffering as well. While we loved him in Dr. Doolittle and Dr. Doolittle 2, his preoccupation with fatherhood seems to be muddying his professional choices. Perhaps he has his eye on filling Bill Cosby's shoes, one day...but, while I love Eddie Murphy, he's no Bill Cosby. And that's a good thing. He's Eddie Murphy! I don't know if it was the acting, the direction, or WHAT, but this movie just didn't do it for me. While there were funny moments (Siobhan Fallon Hogan as "Peggy" was hilarious), the funny moments do not fully redeem this work. I was rather disappointed to see the depths to which Steve Carr would stoop to make us laugh. Potty humor, flatulence and sugar-highs are devices used by uncreative, low-talented individuals who are trying to fit in with real artists. Honestly, there was nothing in this movie that Michael Keaton didn't already do in "Mr. Mom," and Keaton did it much, MUCH better, in my opinion. All in all, while it was enjoyable, I found it to be a sad rip off of a much better film...a real disappointment that not even Anjelica Huston could salvage. Okay, okay, the movie was fun and it did make me laugh, it had some touching moments and was well enacted. But even with all that, the whole time, I couldn't help but think..."What a rip off...it's been done and done and now, it's being done again."

Daddy Day Care (Special Edition) Overview

There are some good laughs to be found in Daddy Day Care, especially if you're a preschooler with energy to burn. This romper-room comedy shamelessly exploits its high concept idea--dropping Eddie Murphy into a seething den of rugrats--but kids will have plenty of vicarious fun as Murphy and his fellow laid-off colleague (Jeff Garlin) battle unemployment by opening a day-care center in Eddie's home. In partial Witches mode, Anjelica Huston hams it up as a day-care competitor bent on closing Eddie down, while doofus extraordinaire Steve Zahn is recruited as a third partner in "Daddy Day Care," trying his best to entertain a pack of hyperactive kids who've stopped taking their Ritalin. Zahn makes a funny Star Trek fan (even when the script contains bogus Trekkie trivia), and Murphy deserves credit for giving his all in a comedy that mostly squanders his talent. French & Saunders: At the Movies Review

"French and Saunders" are Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, two incredibly talented British comedic actresses/writers. This collection of spoofs and skits comes courtesy of the BBC.

While featuring several movie spoofs ("Misery", "Silence of the Lambs", "Thelma and Louise", etc) that is not the only genre lampooned by these gifted writers/actors.

In addition to films, they also try their hand at spoofing music videos (their take on Guns-n-Roses "November Rain", with Jennifer Saunders taking on the Axl role and Dawn French that of Slash, is absolutely hysterical), fashion models, high-brow mini-series (Upstairs Downstairs), the Royals, etc.

Of the film spoofs, the "Thelma and Louise" and "Silence of the Lambs" parodies stands out, as does a priceless take on "Star Wars:Phantom Menace". The "Star Wars" spoof is part of the BONUS selections on this DVD.

With tongue firmly in cheek, these two woman break down the fourth wall barrier and often interact out of character with each other, with uproarius results.

Among other topics, they turn their sharp wit to comment on the obvious superiority of Princess Diana over Sarah Ferguson (the DVD is dated 1994, which explains why the "Star Wars" skit is considered BONUS material) and how supermodel Jerry Hall "has it all".

The skits and lampoons here are right on the money, with detailed sets reproductions and props (many an inside joke on props are peppered throughout). Details count with any parody and are much appreciated here - From the costumes, down to the uncanny reproduction of Sigourney Weaver's voice (as portrayed by Jennifer Saunders) in the "Aliens" parody.

Jennifer Saunders has a gift with voices. She does not impersonate so much as interpret nuance (as Clarice in "Silence of the Lambs" and as Ripley in "Aliens").

As for pure, comedy sketches? If anyone has ever been inundated with mail order catalogs, there is an absolutely laugh-out-loud skit which centers around two women who have obviously purchased every catalog item ever produced.

This is an excellent, funny collection and one that you'll enjoy watching and watching again. I think once you've experienced the comic talents of these two very funny women, you'll be looking for additional "French and Saunders" collections.

Note please that I believe this DVD contains different material than the VHS tape, as there is no spoof on "The Exorcist" as indicated in some of the other reviews.

A quick rundown of some topics covered : "Misery", commercial spoofs, "November Rain" music video, Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson, Jackie and Joan Collins, "Aliens", "American Gladiators", The Mama's and the Papa's music video, "Silence of the Lambs", catalog fans, Jerry Hall, "Thelma and Louise", "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace".

27 Dresses - Movie Review

A romantic comedy whose central premise is that a woman is always a bridesmaid, the bride may sound like a thread from the idea-mill, but it is something much more authentic and interesting, "27 Dresses", which always makes a little " more than your stock-standard romantic comedy. Although outside the treaties of the rule with this genre (associated and engage their dependence on these conventions, it is disappointing and ridiculous), this film is really the courage to increasethe theme of the difference between falls in love with the idea to get married and falls in love with someone who is good for you. Not many romantic comedies do, because they are too busy to present the sale of the latest chick fantasy rather than an attempt at what is happening in the real world. It's just a shame that at the end of "27 Dresses" makes the same, but before they had to say at this point, this film into something warm and charming in by signsScenes, which keeps for a film about your interest in the environment, but loses in the end, the end to a great extent be predictable finale.

Since she is a girl, Jane has helped other women with their marriage. There are many things thematically in this film hold your interest. First, there is sibling rivalry between Jane and Tess, the latter, who is always the light and attention. Jane has never argued the point and tissues can be away with everything, including his romantic interest in TessChief, hovers in a series of great scenes with Jane in the background because it under the intense psychological torture, which is likely to be granted under it, is in love with her boss. Only when Tess is selfish enough to tell the mother in a wedding dress again cut that Jane finally grab the truth and George showed drastically Tess' is to keep George from all their "first night - the wedding-party" to day. There are also many"Wedding comment will appear in the character of Kevin, seeing the fun, especially when it is so unlike the sweet and innocent Jane's views are on marriage and the marriage.

Where this film is his confidence is based on the conventions of the typical romantic comedy. By itself, really kills the climax of the film. But what is he for me at the end of the line-up of the woman who had contributed to Jane's clothingBridesmaid Dresses Jane led to their marriage. This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. So as this movie really interesting topic to explore the universe, which recorded 2-D into a police complaint to decline.

"27 Dresses" is a romantic comedy, which is more honest and true, that most films of this kind, it still leaves at the end of the conventions that define most films of this kind.

Home Movies - Season Four Review

Sadly, this is the final season of a series that should have gotten more exposure. I never saw Home Movies when it was in first-run television, but discovered it in reruns in the Adult Swim block of programming on Cartoon Network. While the characters mostly act and speak much older than their supposed 8 years, they still retain some of the innocence and naivety of children - at least enough to make them believable.

No matter how bad a mood I am in, all I have to do is pop in a Home Movies DVD and soon I'm laughing out loud. Brendon's decidedly non-childlike, quirky, honest but overwhelmingly naive outlook on life creates a lot of deeply funny moments.

Home Movies - Season Four Overview

Home Movies: Season Four represents, sadly, the final episodes of a wonderful animated series, and those 13 shows are indeed a comic triumph. Somewhat reminiscent of Seinfeld, Home Movies gradually mastered the art of interwoven, multiple storylines that build toward brilliant entanglements. That would be enough to recommend the show, but Home Movies, besides being frequently hilarious, also has a soul. The continuing misadventures of 8-year-old, neurotic Brendon Small (voiced by, yes, series co-creator Brendon Small) are a treat to watch, but they also reveal the pain of a good kid's outsized ambitions chafing against natural innocence and the frustrations of childhood.

Many of the episodes concern Brendon's relentless desire to direct films and, at least in one case, theatre. His off-and-on ambivalence about collaborating in these endeavors with best friends Jason (H. Jon Benjamin) and Melissa (Melissa Bardin Galsky) creates some marvelous tensions, such as a very funny story in which Brendon reluctantly acquiesces to his pals' enthusiasm to produce an obviously doomed movie called "Wizird's Baker" (the misspelling is Jason's fault). While Melissa and Jason pound the pavement to raise funds for the production, Brendon dodges the project by immersing himself in a half-baked, outdoors-y outfit called the Skunk Scouts. His sudden embrace of boyhood pleasures--carving wood, earning merit badges--is painfully sweet in light of his guilt over sabotaging his friends' dream. In another superb episode, Brendon mounts a disastrous, 1950s-themed musical called "Bye, Bye Greasy" at school, pressing the increasingly degenerate Coach McGuirk (Benjamin again) into playing a teen rebel and nudging a disillusioned Jason and Melissa toward bland, supporting roles. On the other hand, the trio of friends sometimes cooperate beautifully: organizing, for instance, a special revenge against sadistic camp counselors in the season premiere. (Meanwhile, McGuirk is in hiding from a touchy-feely men's group called "Crywalkers.") There are some fabulous special features in this set, including a bonus music CD with 52 songs from all four seasons, 22 commentaries from the cast, crew, and special guests (including the Shins and Modest Mouse), and an "Audio Outtakes Jukebox." --Tom Keogh

Saturday Night Live: The Best of Chris Farley Review

If you want a seriously good Laugh-Your-A*s-Off-Belly-Laugh, then you have to get this DVD. Probably one of my all-time favorites is the opening sketch of Farley as Mayor Giuliani's son acting up during his Mayoral inauguration speech. OMG, it's such a side-splitter and sets the tone for the rest of the hilarity to come. Honorable mention goes to him as the laugh-til-it-hurts-funny, "Motivational Speaker", of course him as a Chippendales Dancer hopeful with Patrick Swayzy, and the way-too-short skit of him as an overweight girl pigging out on french fries with her girlfriends. (But can't believe they left out the bellowing line, "CAN'T A GIRL EAT?!!") Way too many great ones to mention. The world definitely lost a comic genius when this brilliant, sweet, hilariously funny man left us way too soon.

Black Books - The Complete First Series Review

Going into the bookselling world, I didn't know what to expect. I haphazardly searched for a guide that would best instruct me on the ways of customer service, marketing, and security. Whilst several video's failed, I knew that I could rely on the help of the BBC to fill the void. Thankfully, those islanders came through with a short series (only three seasons) entitled Black Books in which we are taken out of the office environment (aka the original Office) and into the small-box world of bookselling. The job is simple, sell the books, make the consumers happy, and leave a happy man at the end of the night. That would seem simple enough unless your names are Bernard Black or Manny Bianco, the ill-fated employees of this independent bookstore. Their hobbies include getting smashed off wine, smoking till their blue in the face, and avoiding actual conversations with those that patron their store. They are the direct opposite of what you would expect in your typical American bookstore. They are crass, they are cruel, they are drunk - but, most importantly, they are genuinely funny. While this wasn't as phenomenal as The Office, it did provide some great laughs, some Python-esque moments (we can all recite the words to "Bookshop" can't we?), and a great reason to enjoy the world of customer service.

This first season introduces us to the beginnings of a relationship like those we can only see in the movies, like Pitt and Jolie or Cruise and Holms, there will always be a Bernard and Manny. In the first episode, we learn how they meet and how the two decide to be working companions, and well, even more in further episodes. We see our duo become a set of triplets with the introduction to the "girl next door" Fran Katzenjammer (played by Tamsin Greig) who seems to carry the same philosophy with her that the two shopkeepers do as well. She understands their need for booze, insults, and disgruntled nature, and in fact, she feeds it further. Through the course of the first season, we go from a struggling bookshop, to a friendship, to a need for security, to a snub, all the way to helping a friend by house sitting overnight and sampling his wine. The opportunities seem to mimic the humor in this program - it is endless. The chemistry between the characters is superb as well as the ideas generated by creator Dylan Morgan. The timing is fantastic, providing the viewer with a combination punch of both slapstick and verbal routines.

This was a great show to view, but alas, it is only once that I could find myself sitting through it. I don't mean to change the tables on this review, because I did love what this program offered in the form of obscenely funny retail sales moments, but what started out strongly eventually lost the speed it began with. The first four episodes came out of the gate rather strongly, instituting laughs and originality with character driven scenes and relatable humor, but then with the latter part of episode five and especially episode six (where it seemed to fall into the Chef scenario of getting too much money per episode), we seemed to change gears suddenly. It is extremely noticeable with the final episode entitled, "He's Leaving Home". It was up until this moment that I thought this would have been worth purchasing, but this singular episode soured the entire experience for me. It also lead me into a hesitant viewing of the second season. I would like to restate that I loved so much about this series, but the dramatic change in appearance with the final episodes leaves me with just a regular taste in my mouth.

Overall, Black Books, the first season, is definitely worth a viewing. There is so much to appreciate and enjoy with the characters, stories, and environment that I am surprised it didn't pick up as much "cult" rave as say, The Office did in the states. Bernard Black is hysterical with his drunken raves and slanderish remarks - he will truly inspire anyone that spends time in the retail sector of our great nation. Manny is the perfect patsy with phenomenal facial expressions and an ability to control the physical humor. Manny and Bernard was a great pairing, while Fran seemed to be the anchor between the two. Again, I cannot state that I loved the characters in this series, it just seemed to take a dramatically different course by the end of the first season - a direction I didn't think was one that fit the already standard mold. I would suggest this first season to those that enjoyed Little Britain or The Office, but don't think it deserves any more than a singular viewing.

How can the concept of a drunk owning a bookshop be surreally funny? Well, Black Books may be owned by Bernard Black on screen, but off screen it belongs to writer-director Graham Linehan of Father Ted fame, that's how. His writing partnership with Dylan Moran (Black) produced the strangest situation comedy of 2001, fully deserving its British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award. The almost blissfully vague plotline begins when stressed-out office worker Manny Bianco (Bill Bailey) accidentally swallows The Little Book of Calm. Somehow his beard and Bernard's booze get on well enough for them to work together in the shop. They're ably assisted/distracted/confused by the hormonal interruptions of neighboring storeowner Fran (Tamsin Greig). And that's about it. But across six episodes, this first year crammed in an enormous amount of insanity and sight gags. Definite highlights include Fran's over-the-radio seduction by Shipping News broadcaster Howell Granger, a good cop/bad cop Sweeney spoof and a cameo by Nick Frost (Mike in Spaced) as a more than slightly over-the-top security system installer. The standout episode is "The Grapes of Wrath," in which Bernard and Manny agree to babysit a valuable wine cellar. No prizes for guessing what happens! Kevin Eldon guest stars as The Cleaner, declaring the shop to be "dirty." Manny already knew that. When he made the appointment he had to confess, "Right now I'm eating scrambled egg with a comb out of a shoe." --Paul Tonks

Animal Farm Review

I watched this when it first came out, and I felt they actually did a decent job with it, not sure why I see negative reviews here.

As with any book turned into a movie, there will always be some material left out of the script for various reasons. I felt, however, that all the essentials of the allegory were held onto. The revolution, the coup by a power-hungry despot, the declining conditions and loss of freedoms, the use of propaganda, the animals looking at their leaders and the humans and not seeing any difference anymore, all pretty faithfully portrayed.

There are some updates, of course. Most namely, the happy ending, which seems to have gained so much objection here. When the book first came out, Stalin was still in charge and showed no signs of going away anytime soon. When the film aired, the old Soviet Union had fallen due to it's own internal flaws and problems. This is reflected well in the ending, I feel.

The animals who escaped and only returned after the fall? I have no problem with this, either. I expect there are several Russians who left during the Soviet days and have since returned.

Where some find these two alterations an objectionable attempt to make the ending cheery for the kiddies, I have to disagree. The pain and sorrow felt by the escapees on their return, on seeing what became of the farm after they left, is hardly likely to cheer the kids. It is merely updating the story to take into account what happened in Russia as the Soviet system declined and fell apart.

After the technical achievement of Babe, it was inevitable that "talking animal" effects would be applied to the serious themes of George Orwell's Animal Farm. A bitterly satirical indictment of Stalinist Russia and the failure of Communism, Orwell's 1945 novel is a time-honored classic, so it's only fitting that this TNT production remains largely faithful to Orwell's potent narrative. A showcase for the impressive creations of Jim Henson's Creature Shop (where director John Stephenson was a veteran supervisor), the film employs animatronic critters and computer animation to tell the story of uprising, unity, and tragic rebellion among the animals of a British farm.

The politics of "Animalism" are initially effective, ousting enemy humans according to rules ordained by Old Major, the barnyard pig whose death sets the stage for the corruptive influence of the pig Napoleon, who cites superior intelligence as his right to superiority. This tyrannical reign destroys the farm's stability, and the film--decidedly not for young children--preserves Orwell's dark, cynical view of absolute power corrupting absolutely. Particularly effective is a propaganda film shown to the barnyard collective, and certain scenes--while not as impressive as the Babe films--powerfully convey the force of Orwell's story through animal "performance." Animal Farm occasionally falters in its emotional impact (the fate of the horse Boxer should be heart-rending, and it isn't), but it's certainly blessed with an elite voice cast, including Peter Ustinov, Patrick Stewart, Pete Postlethwaite, Julia Ormond, Kelsey Grammer, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Paul Scofield, and Ian Holm. I think it's great to try, others laugh and feel comfortable in their attitude and improve spiritual life. I like laughing. My eldest son, as if in mockery, as I laugh because I laugh out loud. Rice is obviously well in my family because my mother and her two sisters laugh, just as I do too. It seems that stop when the girls together, we never getlaugh and we do not laugh, not even funny. Is how God intervenes in our lives to give us the joy of laughter? I think it is.

The film goes into hospital for children dressed as a clown and take all the kids there to laugh and be happy. It is based on a true story based, Hunter "Patch" Adams is still alive, in practice what it preaches. I recommend everyone rent the movie, you laugh, I promise.

TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection: Comedy (Arsenic and Old Lace / A Night at the Opera / The Long Long Trailer / Father of the Bride 1950) Review

This collection contains four very different comedies from four very different types of comics. It is part of over a dozen sets produced by Warner Home Video to bring classic film to the masses by making inexpensive sets of the better films in their libraries that have no extra features.

The oldest in the bunch, "A Night at the Opera" (1935), revived the career of the Marx Brothers after they were released from their contract at Paramount. Irving Thalberg thought that the brothers' comedy still had merit and that part of their problem was that "they never helped anybody". The test of time has shown that, although not profitable at the time, the Paramount Marx comedies were the best film work that the brothers did. However, that doesn't mean that this film isn't great. It is also available in a more deluxe form in the collection The Marx Brothers Collection (A Night at The Opera/A Day at The Races/A Night in Casablanca/Room Service/At the Circus/Go West/The Big Store).

"Arsenic and Old Lace" (1944) stars Cary Grant in a classic dark comedy. Grant plays a newlywed who finds out that his aunts have made a habit of poisoning their elderly male boarders and burying them in the cellar. This has only been available in the past as a single DVD, and it is an older one at that - released in 2000 I believe.

"Father of the Bride" (1950) has Spencer Tracy as a man who begins to feel his age and his pocketbook when his daughter (Elizabeth Taylor) gets married. It shows Tracy has a knack for comedy even if Katharine Hepburn is not involved. This is available in a more deluxe edition in the now out of print The Elizabeth Taylor Signature Collection (National Velvet / Father of the Bride / Cat on a Hot Tin Roof / Butterfield 8).

Finally there is "The Long Long Trailer" from 1954. Made to capitalize on the popularity of the TV series "I Love Lucy", the film is pretty funny in its own right even it is basically Lucy and Desi playing their TV characters under other names. The two play newlyweds who buy a motor home instead of a house and almost ruin their marriage by going on a cross-America trek in the thing. This is also available in The Lucy & Desi Collection (Too Many Girls / The Long Long Trailer / Forever, Darling). By and large I don't think that the movies ever figured out what to do with Lucille Ball, but this is one of her better efforts in film.

David Naughton, who went on to star in An American Werewolf in London, is our hero, but the real fun comes from Stephen Furst as the mean and chubby rich kid and the legendary über-nerd Eddie Deezen as Wesley. Michael J. Fox makes his film debut as Naughton's troubled but feisty kid brother, and the eagle-eyed viewer may even spot Paul Reubens in a tiny role. Being a Disney film that was released before Porky's made shower scenes an integral part of campus comedies, this is a curiously innocent movie--just watch how long it takes the teams to decipher the clue, "Look between the two giant melons." Nevertheless, Midnight Madness is 112 minutes of undemanding, cheesy fun for anyone who remembers the last days of disco. So many movies made from books end up being nothing more than mockeries of these books. Many book-to-movies I have seen were godawful, with no respect given to the book.

This however, is NOT one of them. This movie is just as fun as the book. I love the opening scene where the bus is riding to the camp and at first you see a few holes, but then the holes multiply. One of the most freaking cool scenes I've ever seen. Shia LeBeouf and Sigourney Weaver, along with Job Voight deliver solid performances. This along with the story make for a great movie for kids and adults alike.

DVD Player installed in your computer

DVD Ripper(This pulls the movie from the DVD on your computer)

PSP Video Converter (convert to see film and video files to MP4 format that you enter on your PSP.)

(Note: There is software that combines both the DVD Ripper and Converter)

USB cable

1. Insert your DVD and start your DVD ripper, select the movie or video that you want to put on your PSP and press the "extract" or "Rip" button. Tell us where you want to save the file.

2. If you already have movie and / or video files onYour pc then all you need to do is hit "add" from the DVD ripper and tell you where you want to save the file.

3. Select the file you saved on your computer and remove the press "and / or encode" button from your PSP Video Converter and save this file.

3. If you own a DVD Ripper / PSP Video Converter Combo Software ... You can combine steps 1,2 and 3.

At this point, you have the files on your PC ... and they are in the correct format.

Sorry, if you missed the humor in my review title. It's actually a quote from the film itself. And I don't memorize line from movies, unless they've really made some kind of impression , on me. "Micki and Maude" was impressionable , because it's hilarious. Not hilarious, like "The Jerk", or "Dumb and Dumber". It's not that kind of film. Rather it's hilarious, in the sense of it's dry wit and added humor ,into everyday life situations. Not overplayed or over the top. Hollywood doesn't make too many films like this anymore and that makes "Micki and Maude" , even more enjoyable. This is one of those ,little ,jewels, of a film , that has escaped the popularity and credit , that it's worth. I originally , saw "Micki and Maude" , back in the 80's , on HBO. I was a huge Dudley Moore fan , and so that was the initial appeal , and he's very funny as the story's leading character ( Rob ). I'm also a huge Blake Edwards fan , and this story is exemplirary of his directing and hilarious writing skills. Richard Mulligan also adds to this hilarious farce about a married man ( Dudley Moore ) , who falls for an ambitious , talented and very beautiful younger woman ( played by Amy Irving ). Things get complicated , as Rob ( Dudley Moore) tries to cover it up , from his wife and tries to keep his wife a secret from his mistress. If that sounds tricky , add the fact that he's madly in love with both and gets them both pregnant , at the same time. By today's Hollywood standards , this film would never get the greenlight. Simply because the formula of the script is entirely too murky. However , this film proves that with a wonderful script , director, and cast , that it is possible to make a highly entertaining film with this type of material. Moreover, " Micki and Maude " is a quaint little film , that harbors alot of it's storyline with chauvenistic themes. But who else can make this theme, more humor filled than Dudley Moore ? I've seen this film, countless times and I enjoy it even more, as I get older. A very funny film , to see on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Then I thought about this column, I started on the old films, and something that I just do not see in modern thinking. ACouple sitting in a dinner, both share a milkshake or soda.

This tip is to do just that. Take drink significant other out for a joint. After dinner one night, go down to your town / city and find your local soda shop. Do not have one? Then choose a quiet dinner. Order a milkshake or soda, put two straws in it and sit and stare at each other's eyes and speak low.

This might not sound very original, but when you have tried the last time? When was the last time wasShe left the house, left the hectic life behind and focus only on your love? I bet there's been a while. Minutes driving in the car for 10-15 does not count. Meeting with the TV does not count. The 3 minuets when brushing your teeth and getting ready for bed, does not count. This idea has less to do with the event and more with the connection.

Watch one of those old movies where they sit at the soda shop for a drink. The actors are intensely looking at each other. Theyare "together" and the actors so much say with just a glance. These scenes are so much more from the "romance" Women are looking in real life than most romantic films made in the last 10 years.

So try it. Go buy the $ 3.00 milkshake, put two straws in it to sit opposite each other, look each other in the eye and talk. You may make a connection, you have missed so far. If it is a young relationship, you do this a few times and you may find your relationship growingdeeper than any before it. Set aside the world and enjoy these penny pinching idea.

Flubber has been veiwed so many times I can't remember. It is a wonderful movie that when my older childern grew out of it was quickly passed on the those who were younger and so on and so forth. The VHS version was replaced by the dvd version. Never fear tho the VHS was sent to our friends for their children. Robin Williams is fabulous in this movie and Flubber is full of chuckles, giggles and lots of excitement.

Disney couldn't resist the temptation to remake 1961's popular comedy The Absent Minded Professor, so they cast Robin Williams as Professor Philip Brainard (a role vaguely related to the character originated by Fred MacMurray), and the result is a comedy that, frankly, doesn't fully deserve its modest success. It's admittedly clever to a point, and certainly the digitally "flubberized" special effects provide the kind of movie magic that's entertaining for kids and parents alike. The professor can't even remember his own wedding day (much to the chagrin of his fiancée, played by Marcia Gay Harden), and now his academic rival (Christopher McDonald) is trying to steal his latest and purely accidental invention--flying rubber, or ... flubber. The green goo magnifies energy and can be used as an amazing source of power, but in the hands of screenwriter John Hughes it becomes just another excuse to recycle a lot of Home Alone-style slapstick humor involving a pair of bumbling would-be flubber thieves. There's also a floating robot named Weebo and some catchy music by Danny Elfman to accompany dancing globs of flubber, but the story's too thin to add up to anything special. Lightweight fun, but, given the title, it lacks a certain bounce. Of course, that didn't stop Disney's marketing wizards from turning it into a home-video hit. --Jeff Shannon

Scary Movie gives off a funny vibe that I think made me smile throughout the movie. You see, I'm the sort of person who loves dark humor, hence the Scary Movies. I appreciate how Scary Movie tries to make something serious a lighter subject, even though sporadically it's not that funny. Although some might not like this movie, I enjoyed it and it embellished things that you DON'T want to do or say. I loved Scary Movie and I would recommend it to anyone who loves physical and dark movies that are funny.

If you've seen Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, then you know the entire plot of Scary Movie. That's okay, though, because this is a parody, and it helps to know the story in order to be able to get the jokes. No, the biggest surprise here is not the story as much as the amount of full-frontal male nudity. Really, in addition to all the dick jokes (and the ass jokes and fart jokes), there's a couple of shots of the male member, one of which is erect and used as a weapon. Scary Movie somehow ended up with an R rating, which in a sense is groundbreaking; perhaps our ratings board is loosening up after all.

But is it funny? That's the most important question, and the answer to that is yes. In the vein of Airplane!, with a dash of the Farrelly brothers, Scary Movie keeps throwing jokes at you one after another. The law of averages says some of them have to hit, and enough of them do to keep the movie entertaining. Unlike the makers of Airplane!, however, the Wayans brothers aren't making this movie out of a love of the genre, and unlike the Farrelly brothers, they don't make fun of retarded people with any sort of respect, so the humor throughout feels a lot uglier. Still, there are enough funny scenes in Scary Movie to make the viewing experience worthwhile. Special credit must go to Lochlyn Munro as Greg, the over-the-top jock, who steals the movie up until the time he's gotta die. --Andy Spletzer

Offering an abundance of vintage Hollywood entertainment, the five films included in The Lucille Ball Film Collection cover a broad spectrum of Lucy's movie career, from one of her most prominent early roles to her final big-screen appearance. Long before she became an icon of TV sitcoms, Lucy had moved from New York to Hollywood in 1933, appearing in a variety of mostly uncredited showgirl roles in over 40 films before getting her first big break in the 1937 classic Stage Door (not included in this set). Lucy's star quickly began to rise, and by the time she played sassy nightclub singer "Tiger Lily White" in 1940's Dance, Girl, Dance, she was holding her own with such famous costars as Maureen O'Hara and Ralph Bellamy. A year later, Lucy starred with Red Skelton and Gene Kelly in Du Barry Was a Lady, a lavish and still-delightful MGM musical comedy that was Lucy's first film in color--and the first to feature the blazing red hair (recommended by legendary Hollywood stylist Sydney Guilaroff) that became one of Lucy's most beloved and readily identifiable features.

By the time Lucy played a middle-aged playwright in Critic's Choice (1963), she'd become one of TV's most beloved and successful comediennes, and her film career was clearly winding down. Critic's Choice was a fitting follow-up to 1960's The Facts of Life, reuniting Lucy with four-time costar Bob Hope in an upscale comedy/drama that was noteworthy for its progressive depiction of divorced and remarried sophisticates in New York City. A decade later, Lucy chose the ill-fated Mame (1974) for what would prove to be her final big-screen appearance. Therapy Vicariously - Watch HBO's In Treatment

TV series with heroic zany doctors or medical interns have the rage for many years. Perhaps viewers would say that there is an oversupply of hour dramas and half-hour comedies, based on a close-knit group of people in the emergency room or a pill-popping doctor with miracle cures and an abrasive attitude. But on the premium channels, there is a new concept for the painting of medical care. It is more cerebral, and it is uncharted territory in theStates.

Nobody knew, would do well as HBO In Treatment. HBO viewers tend to be a stimulating much interest in complex story lines and unconventional characters. This is, after all, the network, The Wire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under and brought millions of households over the years. But a television program about the therapy, in more or less shot in real time? It was not certainly going to show up only in the near future on network television: It was material for cable and satellite TV.And if someone could work it, it was HBO.

But what is needed to work here was a TV show, which felt, at times more like a play. Based on an Israeli series, and often shot true scene-by-scene in the original treatment is the weekly schedule of Paul seeing a psychotherapist to five patients a week through his private practice. Each patient has one days of the week, and whole episodes of the first season of tumor therapy are on this single session.

InIn addition to seeing patients, Paul has his therapist, a rule for the mental health professionals, with whom he is not often disagree because of differences in opinion. The show is not as easy as if Paul is his own family to exercise and to repair the relationship while the other, but this is a fundamental theme of the show already in the year.

The jury is still not clear whether or not treatment is regarded as a triumph for the station. The Showmanaged primarily with the critics, with cast members received nominations at the Emmy Awards two years in a row and take home wins at the Golden Globes. Recruited spectators, but many people are not addicted to the show if they live, but later, when they used the satellite TV broadcast on-demand feature. Thus it is entirely possible that were in treatment, the fate of so many other TV shows, the creative well done is just, and, finally, a little too far to be renewed before its timefor season after season.

In Treatment is the case of the brilliant but canceled route, use the time, you can catch it on the air. Shows like these are what was referred to on-demand, and the viewer can decide for yourself whether this drama deserves a shot at more seasons, while feeling as if she is exactly where the therapy, even if only through mirrors on their HD TV. Since the Writers Strike, people have gradually aware of the serious lack of entertainment value of today's television programs. I give my own opinion here, but I feel that I am not alone. Seems like the popular shows run by only a goal to bring a certain percentage of the ads market. Then they let themselves and others show, takes its place. From a business perspective it does not seem to make much sense. Am I missing something here? What possible gain such a measure couldobtained for the networks.

There is a tendency to cancel since the second Gulf War, from the successful shows and then. It is possible that this phenomenon is responsible for the increase in popularity of cable and satellite programming. Such things as biased reporting network must also have some effect, but do not ask such a question, such as deleting a successful show in my opinion. Is there a hidden, what's going on? How about this scenario. Two top TV executives fromdifferent networks are sitting in the reading room of the exclusive clubhouse. One says the other, "John, I bet I could start a TV show about everything, every issue." "Do you think Larry?, John questions. "Sure," says Larry. "Let me give you an example. Sure, there are many single parents there, and I'm not trying to put them. It is only the man, we can see some happily married couples? It is shocking how little there in Disney movies ...

OK, rant off ... LOL ... Return to the Bedtime Stories ...

This was expected a comedy, which has remained clean as I had. One of the reasons I am no friend of Adam, he is happy to star in comedyThe crude humor. I believe that we can not do funny films, with the rudeness.

It is certainly not oil free. However, much less crude than what I normally expect. LOL!

Conclusion: There may have been less crude humor, but there was no shortage of bad character of the building. There were quite a few bad experiences in the film. Children take these movies seriously. They learn that lying, cheating and adults, a 6-year-old foster boy, kissing girls, (andmany others not very good "lessons" can be found in this film) are funny and "light".

My little one repeated some stuff I did not like ... We have had a pow wow .... or as my teenager likes to call it a "lecture". Guess what? My teenagers really appreciate my lectures! WOW! Go figure!

It is definitely a film, are a nice conversation with your younger children, when it's over needed. Remember, as Christian mothers, we must ensure that we know that it never"just a movie." What we see, hear and touch us more than we realize or want to admit. As mothers, we have the responsibility for educating our children and teach them what is right and what is not.

It was OK. However, I do not think I will buy this movie, so my girls can watch it over and over again.

I am a classic television junky. Most of the shows that do not hold today until the originality, the stories and the uniqueness of the old programs while the TV from the "Golden Era". As a result, when and if I am a follower of the series, it has to be something special when the series does not affect me emotionally, I reach for the remote control and the search for TV Land. Not to say that it made no breakthrough TV shows in the last 20 years. Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, PicketFences are Northern Exposure, The West Wing and The Sopranos a few that come to mind. Heck, I even enjoy Beverly Hills 90210! However, leaving most of the programming and its contents myself longing for Columbo, or Hill Street Blues and the Television of the '70 's and '80' s.

My brother, a great judge of what is strong or weak on television, I recommended to check out Six Feet Under and had to tell him what (I think it 2003, two years after the shows are running). We do not get HBO on TV (until today)in Canada, so the usual way for an American show to see not accessible to the masses is the DVD to the video store to rent. After renting and watching Season 1, the pilot, I immediately realized that this show was unique and special. When I watch a show, I see a show, study, digest, they decide. I immediately LOVED the show. I felt that to you that the alarm goes off .. the "quality meter" in your head. I needed more! The characters, especially intrigued and fascinated me. I related to thePresentations given by all the unique and flawed players. The daily struggles that they endure (self-doubt, hurt, fears, emotions, death, etc.) allowed me to the viewer in a way that made me believe that we all relate to the same fears in daily life, which gave me the content feeling that I am not alone in dealing with this as an adventure (and sometimes fighting) life. If a program you can open your eyes and make you ponder your own existence, "what it's all about" questions of life, treating itwith so much appreciation and respect as a classic novel, you have the words that you lived or a song that was the soundtrack of your life. A series that has sent a charge through me, so strong and powerful, I felt lucky to "get it".

Six Feet Under is not a series (graphic language and content) for the networks. Without the graphic and sexual content of this program would never to such an. This is a show for adults, and I understand the difference between entertainment and familyadult content. Credit HBO for its existence. HBO credit for taking a chance on a show that was in the early years, not a great success. How to Grow M * A * S * H, credit network for the admission of the series, and build an audience. For this reason, Six Feet Under is indeed in Sayers fans. DVD sales and rentals only prove that the public is fascinated by this show, its content, his writing and his characters.

While there are dozens of dramas and comedies that have touched the groundpublic and myself, Six Feet Under deserves #2 all time television status due to:
-Being the one show that treated and allowed us to see life and death in a realistic and graphic way. It was not always easy to watch but give credit to the show for its honesty and realism that both entertained us and alarmed us simultaneously.
-The characters that we identified with, whether individually or as a combination. Each actor cast in their respected roles, allowed us to relate to each one with a Flood of emotions and identification. Nate Fisher, the anchor and flawed "savior" of the family, inherited the role of the patriarch after the death of Nathaniel Sr. What is Nate's symbolic that he recognizes and accepts its role in keeping the family together, but negative forces and self-destructive behavior (based on impulsive behavior) usually complicates the lives of Nate's to the point where Nate's own existence and his place in life matters (we can all relate) He is the conscientiousnessthe the show. David Fisher, middle child, closet homosexual, sensitive and angry, struggles for acceptance and understanding in a world dictated by social norms. David's continual search for answers with his conflicting lifestyles (homosexual in one world and seemingly straight with his family, funeral home clients and church in another), give way to guilt, shame and confusion, combined with a sensitivity and compassion for others make David the Id, Ego and Super Ego of the show. Claire Fisher, Fisher, the youngest of several years, provides the show with the youth, optimism, arrogance, an attitude about everything. With the honesty of the other fishermen are not able to Claire is the voice of truth in the show. Ruth Fisher, the mother of the Fishers, provides the family with the security of a mother, we receive all or longing, and fear that a mother can bring you, with all its overbearing ways. Ruth holds all the guilt, the fear and the uncertainty of the show. Six Feet Under, the best Drama series of our generation ... a show that could continue for a few more years, but also mention new ones when it ended ... at the top. Six Feet Under never died though ... for those who watched it will forever live in our memories.

My Science Project Review

Every Halloween my friends and I get together and have a Halloween party. Our Idea of a good party is to put in as many hokey Scary or science fiction movies as we can, serve a buffet of food, and eat and watch movies.
This movie along with "The Monster Squad",and the "Night of the Comet" are some of our favorites.
It's fun to laugh at the acting, and the special effects, but it's also a great movie with Dennis Hopper playing a weird hippie science teacher, (Yeah, I'd have second thoughts about that too if I was a parent in this movie.), and a great car. It's worth watching and fun to boot.

As the hero, John Stockwell is too low-key for his own good, but Danielle Von Zerneck is appealing as his emerging love interest, and Fisher Stevens and Raphael Sbarge do their best to inject some life into the material. I was reading some of the other reviews and felt the need to even the score. Yes this is a great childrens show, but it is not a bad for the older individuals as well. It is just a fictional story, and I'm glad that there are some out there that kids are inspired by that are not GI Joe or some other gun use inspireing show. All I have to say is that I bought it for me to watch, and I only saw it once AND 23 years old.

Best watched by the young/children at heart.

How To Handle Holiday Stress

Hey, it's December already? Where are the years go? I had big plans for this year ... .. .... Do you think I still have time to lose that 25 kg. Learn a second language and earn an additional 100,000 U.S. dollars? Oh, damn. Maybe next year?

I do not, as you all know, but every year I make big plans for my year in January and December, the month that I feel "the ticking of the clock." Okay, I'm not doing all of my goals, but I do a good portion of them.

I learned long ago notStress on "unused" part of my target list because they can be recycled at the list again next year and focus on the wonder and fun of the month at hand.

I also know that when I make next year in January list, some of these objectives will not be as important, and it will be in order to rid myself of a few of them. But why not just ENJOY December and all the fun it can keep you and your family.

I guarantee you that your family will love you the same, with or withoutsuch additional twenty-five pounds, and who cares if you have not yet learned to dance salsa and speak Hungarian? Unless you are married to a lean Hungarian salsa dancers, I do not see the problem.

Not over the "have nots" in this year stress, but pour joy over the things and people that you in your life. If you really believe that you need help to handle stress, maintain natural alternatives, such as valerian, kava kava and stress Herbs and vitamins formulated.

Remember, the holidaysare not for showing off .... They are for showing up! So, keep your sense of humor. I can not think of a time when a sense of humor is needed over the holidays. Long lines, traffic, weak bank accounts, strange relatives, weird gifts, weird relatives ... .. oh my, this list can continue.

Fortunately, there are many funny movies for the holidays. I LOVE watching holiday comedy, my favorites are "The Preacher's Wife" (the remake with Denzel) and "Home Alone"(the original).

It makes me chuckle when I see people walk around and wear funny sweaters, Santa hats, and reindeer antlers on their heads.

Have FUN this holiday and by the way …what did Santa say to the reindeer? I don’t know. I don’t speak reindeer.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (DVD) Review

Hands down, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is the best Christmas theme comedy ever filmed. Personally, I'm not used to seeing this film about ten million times between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Even after the movie so many times that I season recite word-for-word Christmas Vacation remains as hilarious and entertaining as the previous holiday. More than just a film of the season, it's one of those rare comedies that it near perfect from beginning toEnd.

Christmas Vacation follows the ongoing exploits Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) and the Griswold family, but this particular version of the classic holiday film is probably the best. As in previous films, Clark's goal is to create the perfect vacation for his family. Only this time, instead of flying Hit the road for Wally World or Europe, the Griswolds stay at home in a suburb of Chicago.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus (mere months before the signing of the roleby Elaine on Seinfeld) makes several appearances as Clark's annoying, yuppie neighbor Margot, a sign of her as elitist yuppie partner, Todd (Nicholas Guest) support. Randy Quaid makes a return appearance as Cousin Eddie, playing the same role from the original Vacation movie. As Clark naive and backward relative, Eddie is a man whose "heart is bigger than its brain." Beverly D'Angelo is also in her previous role as Mrs. Clark, Ellen.

When ClarkMake vows, "the most fun-filled old-fashioned family Christmas ever", which naturally go awry. The Griswold family, and her parents live under one roof, the relatives constantly get on the nerves of the other side. Clark sets out to decorate the house for Christmas, and his efforts culminated in a 25,000 light extravaganza that covers every square inch of the house. In the process, he almost breaks his neck several times and knocks Todd and Margot the window with a flying lanceGutter ice.

The laughs multiply several times as Cousin Eddie comes uninvited and parks his RV in the Griswold driveway. In tow are his wife Catherine, their two kids Ruby Sue and Rocky, and her beautiful dog "Snot". The crescendo of disaster is always higher than Christmas Day approaches with Clark's agony compounded the absence of his annual Christmas bonus. Clark's big Christmas surprise for the family that he wanted in a pool, but to begin workonce the ground thawed, he had laid a strong deposit, not the cover without the scrutiny of his Christmas money.

Exploded after a Christmas Eve in Turkey, is directed towards Aunt Bethany cat itself, Uncle Lewis burns the tree, and a squirrel is loose in the house, a late night knock on the door provides Clark with hope. A messenger handed him an envelope, which fell between the seats, the fabled Christmas bonus. But if the bonus is not quite what Clarkexpected Cousin Eddie Clark with an unexpected surprise last-minute gift ...

Originally published in 1989, Christmas Vacation has surprisingly little content that makes it seem "expiration date passed. As such, it is surely just a holiday tradition for future generations. With some of the best one-liner in all comedy, you find yourself reciting their dialogue for many Christmases to come. But what makes Christmas Vacation as a durable film is that everyone who watches it canrefer to the events inside. Almost everyone has a strange relationship as Eddie or a pair of snotty elitist neighbors, and of course, anyone who is not a squirrel plunder her house on Christmas Eve? Overall, this film is a barrel of laughs. If you do not like it, you will probably not breathe ...

"I can picture this really working out, man". "or I got a plan that will not fail". Ice Cube continues his winning streak as a likeable everyman in family movies with First Sunday, an initially silly, disposable comedy that picks up emotional power and authenticity by the second act. Cube plays ne'er-do-well Durell, an out-of-work Baltimore dad who needs over ,000 to keep his ex from taking their son with her to Atlanta for good. Desperate to raise the cash but hamstrung by his self-defeating attitude and the criminal antics of his goofy sidekick, LeeJohn (Tracy Morgan), Durell gives in to temptation and decides he and LeeJohn should rob a church. The crime goes badly when it turns out a number of parishioners are in the building at the time, and a hostage situation develops. Events take a twist when the would-be thieves become the beneficiaries of Christian charity and forgiveness from the men and women they've kidnapped, and a bigger criminal is revealed in the congregation's mix. A terrific supporting cast including Michael Beach, Chi McBride, Keith David, Malinda Williams, Loretta Devine, and Katt Williams bring strong humor and dignity to the film's latter half, compensating for some unpleasant missteps (a pointless scene at a massage parlor) earlier in the story. Overdue Tribute to Bing Crosby

Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby, who lent his melodious voice, underrated acting talents and devil-may-care attitude to the world for more than five decades, once again brightens the holiday season with its ubiquitous "White Christmas".

The man who sang "his way into the hearts of millions in" Pennies From Heaven "was in the mid-'30s" Swinging on a Star "by the 40s. His" White Christmas "inspired by GI's on the battlefields of the Second World War II and their loved ones at home.

ButCrosby was no ordinary singer - and it would be a shame if we allow his talent to go the way of Russ Columbo, Morton Downey, Al Jolson and Rudy Vallee on.

"Der Bingle" - a nickname he got from the German soldiers who picked up shipments to the merits of his allies - not to be forgotten.

Crosby was the acknowledged forerunner of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Perry Como, and Mel Torme (who is for his own tribute to Bing and his music) and others. His relaxed style of crooningsometimes waved through musical technician, but the "Father O'Malley" from "The Bells of St. Mary's joined in song with almost" everyone who was anyone "during his long and successful career.

Bing not only sang all the great singers of his time, including the tuneful Andrews Sisters, was not included as well known for its broad repertoire, his hit songs, country and western, Hawaiian and jazz, in addition to pop music. More than five decades, recorded, (largely) on the old DeccaLabel, more than 2,400 songs.

While record "White Christmas" generally perceived as his greatest sales, Bing once noted that his recording of "Silent Night" was actually No. 1 in sales. Bing donated all the proceeds of (the) song for charity.

Perhaps one reason that Bing's music is not widely promoted these days (like those of Sinatra) is that done a lot of his best work in the days before high-fidelity and CDs, though (many) technically improved and tapes (CDs )available. Bing was also a cautious man who thought of himself as nothing special, just a singer. Not unlike the character he portrayed in his career he was more interested in golf and fishing than in promoting his career.

Bing was singing, but his friends say that he was seldom happier than when he was playing golf (he was a low handicapper), or casting a fishing line in a remote part of the world. For many years, until his death (74) in 1977, he was the host ofCrosby "Clambake", a pro-am tournament at Pebble Beach held annually.

Few people know that Bing played in nearly five dozen films, starting with a couple of Mack Sennett comedies, and ends with a character in one of the "Stagecoach" remakes. He also had his own television (and radio) shows, and for several years hosted a family Christmas Special.

He is famous, of course, for the seven "Road" pictures he made with a guy named Bob Hope, but it reaches its climax in1944 with the Oscar-winning role in "Going My Way."

Apart from the light-hearted show, he played parts in many films, Bing true talent as an actor in several major roles, including "The Country Girl" with William Holden and Grace Kelly.

Unfortunately, Bing reputation has taken a beating since his death, especially by a book by his son, Gary, Bing presented as such a strict discipline that he fathered the children brutally with Dixie Lee, his first wife.Bing was once regarded as "fallen down drunk" when he described the first hit the spotlight in the late 20's when he (and the separation of the Rhythm Boys), the greatest band leader of the time, Paul Whiteman.

Despite these allegations Bing by millions around the world was loved and was the coldest heart with the great baritone warm. In my opinion he had no equal.

I hope that perhaps, after three decades of loud, cacophonous "music", the young people of today are ready for a returnto reason - a return to truly good music.

And in my book, there is no better music than that provided to us by Bing Crosby.

Hayden would be to work with a younger but equally talented director, Stanley Kubrick, on "The Killing" (1955), a documentary-like depiction of a racetrack robbery. TheFilm is clever tempo, edge-of-your-seat entertainment, punctuated by vivid characterizations (Elisha Cook Jr. and Marie Windsor) are available as a wildly dysfunctional couple. In "The Killing", you can witness the budding of a cinematic genius.

Two excellent heist pictures were made by the same people, the gifted director Jules Dassin, who left to work in the early 50s under the influence of the Hollywood blacklist, a successful career state government site in Europe. His first feature film, made inFrance was "Rififi" (1954), about a group of jewel thieves as distrust each other because the police and not without reason. Viewed today, the film retains its gritty realism: the justly famous heist sequence, very quietly is riveting, and Jean Servais as the author of the crime's performance conveys a sad, twisted nobility. The conclusion of this little masterpiece will grip you and remain with you long after the credits roll.

Ten years later published Dassin"Topkapi", scenes with his wife, the Greek actress Melina Mercouri, Maximilian Schell and Peter Ustinov. This comic is lighter fare, try with a colorful bunch of crooks who steal a jewel encrusted dagger from his heavily guarded Topkapi Museum in Istanbul. Breezy, is colorful and clever, the stars are clearly enjoying themselves, with the exception of sad-sack Ustinov (no matter, he won Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his performance anyway).

Fast-forward to "The Great Train Robbery" (1979), aatmospheric thriller script and best-selling author Michael Crichton directed. "Robbery" exudes a rich Victorian taste, and has the amazing successful pairing of Sean Connery and Donald Sutherland as the team's intention to steal a large shipment of gold from a moving train. "Robbery" is great entertainment, with Lesley Ann Down fetch completion of the criminal trio and adding a full measure of female visual stimulus.

For even more recent fare, try Michael Mann's "Heat"(1995), a pulsating thriller in detail the cat-and-mouse maneuvers between a relentless detective (Al Pacino) and experienced criminal (Robert De Niro) who has both an armored truck robbery and bank robbery. Electrical, graphic and brutal, "Heat" is not for the squeamish, but if you think you can assume, strap in and hold on. It is an intense, captivating journey.

There is a lighter side to "caper film" as well, and my three heist comedy would have to take two Alec Guinness comedyClassics made with the legendary British Ealing Studios, "The Lavender Hill Mob" (1950) and "The Ladykillers" (1955), together with a third, lesser-known Italian chestnuts, "Big Deal on Madonna Street" (1958).

"Mob" is the story of an apparently cautious but cunning clerk who plots the perfect bank robbery of his own. These complicated planning and execution of the crime reflected some of the inspired comic sequences, see on film to see. The always charming Stanley Holloway (Alfie Doolittle in "My FairLady ')) offer excellent support, and search quickly in the first scene for a brief moment, a future star, Audrey Hepburn.

"The Ladykillers" are actually a RAG-tag bunch bottom rung of thieves and hoods, the smarmy Professor Marcus (Guinness) resulted. To conveniently suitable cover for their upcoming caper, but they all board members at the home of a poor, elderly widow, a Mrs. Wilberforce (Katie Johnson), who as a musician. Unfortunately for them Mrs. Wilberforce is much wiserand more alert than they appear, and the gang find themselves more time defensively, as the planning of the robbery. Guinness is priceless, including Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom (who would have in the Pink Panther), combine series, appear in early roles, and Miss Johnson nearly steals the picture as a small but strong-willed mistress.

Finally, Mario Monicelli "big deal is" with Marcello Mastroianni and Claudia Cardinale as the first two entries, but to do the other,expansive Italian style, with much shouting and wild gestures. This special collection of would-be thieves can only belong to the bungling in the story that defies all logic and reason. Amazingly absurd over-the-top, "Big Deal" is great fun for those who prefer their comedy with a hearty dose of Italian passion.

These great heist movies work bind us to the hapless characters who inhabit them, and invest in us achieving the outcome of their efforts tochasing the same pot of gold so many of us, but may be incorrect or false these experiments. And of course anything that they give us that most satisfying of sensations: the vice thrill.

Surely even the French, with their legendary love of all things Jerry Lewis, will be sated by the Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis Collection: Vol. 2, a three-disc package containing five comedy-musicals released on DVD for the first time. It would be a supreme stretch to call any of the five films in question (You're Never Too Young, Artists and Models, Living It Up, Pardners, and Hollywood or Bust) a classic, but then, anyone looking for challenging storylines and deep characterizations probably wouldn't be here in the first place. What the films offer instead are various breezy diversions, in the form of Martin, the suave, smooth talking cad and crooner; a parade of lovely young women (Dorothy Malone, Anita Ekberg, Janet Leigh, and Shirley MacLaine among them); some terrific musical numbers that are the highlights of their respective films; and, of course, the antics of Lewis, whose capacity for slapshtick and mugging is apparently inexhaustible. By this time (the mid-1950s), the two had already fit comfortably into their respective personae, with Lewis as the naïve, ingenuous rube and Martin right there to take advantage of him. In Artists and Models, Martin's aspiring painter cops ideas from the frenzied dreams of his comics-obsessed roommate (Lewis, natch) and creates a hit comic of his own, a simple story that's derailed by an absurd and unnecessary subplot involving the U.S. government and some enemy agents. Living It Up, adapted from an earlier musical called Nothing Sacred, finds Lewis cajoled by Martin, his doctor (talk about a stretch!), into pretending that he's suffering from radiation poisoning so they can both enjoy a lavish trip to New York courtesy of a newspaper trying to boost circulation by playing up the "dying" man's plight. Hollywood or Bust, a combination road picture and gentle spoof of the movie biz, casts Martin as a gambler and con man accompanying film fanatic Lewis on a trip to Tinseltown, while Pardners is a Wild West romp ("Jerry Lewis as a gunslinger" about sums it up) and You're Never Too Young puts Lewis totally in his element as he impersonates a 12-year-old boy in order to escape bad guy Raymond Burr. The plots are thin, at best, and the songs are hardly Oscar caliber. Still, the two stars have an undeniable chemistry, and the musical set pieces are highly entertaining, most notably a sort of pas de duh (sic) between Lewis and MacLaine in Artists and Models and an eye-popping, show-stopping dance number in Living It Up. In the end, it all basically comes down to one's capacity to endure Lewis' manic mannerisms (it's worth noting that by Hollywood or Bust, the pair's last collaboration, he's pretty thoroughly upstaged by a Great Dane). If even this cornucopia isn't sufficient, perhaps a move to France is in order. The set contains no bonus material. --Sam Graham

Examining Dream Sequences in Eragon

The fantasy adventure "Eragon," based on a trilogy Christopher Paolini's book is about a young dragon rider has been drawing criticism for borrowing ideas from the "Harry Potter" series (Hagrid's dragon eggs and baby dragons), "Star Wars "series (Luke's uncle killed empire) of evil, and especially" The Lord of the Rings "trilogy (dark magic consultant, a young man needs a trip, etc.). Another element that "Eragon" together with these other films is the use of dreamsSequences - in this case, false dreams of an evil sorcerer who sent for a corrupt king.

In the film finds a young farm boy Eragon (Edward Speleers), which seems to be the last dragon egg. After secretly raising the animal, a dragon-rider Eragon is reluctant to right some of the wrong place in the kingdom of Alagaesia. In an earlier era, got dragons and their riders through the air to keep the peace in the country, brought up about the tragedyapparent extinction of the fire-breathing beasts.

In addition to keeping a low profile for his own protection and that of Sapphira () is fighting his dragon, Eragon with other problems: when he was young his mother fled with no explanation, the uncle, who was murdered him, despite his status as a Dragon Rider, he gets little or no respect for his young age, and he has disturbing dreams of a beautiful elf woman (Sienna Guillory as Arya) who is suffering in jail and needshis help.

Each dream contains further information about their identity, location and location. Eragon has no way of knowing that the dreams are not mandatory but it will be telepathic by the dark magic Durza the Shade (Robert Carlyle), the Arya captured and hopes to send a trap for the young Dragon Rider.

Take Harry Potter's recurring dreams of Mr. Valdemort and Anakin Skywalker's recurring dreams of the death of his mother - all the supernatural from sources outside their own planned.

As with Harry and Anakin, Eragon dreams drive him to his fate. This fate is unknown, the dreamers, but is understood by older, wiser,magical beings. Furthermore, like "Eragon" director Stefen Fangmeier no doubt realized, if successful, dream sequences are an excellent means of providing background information and the story moves forward without having to weigh, what with long explanations.
